Undergraduate Interview Q & A to Get you Prepared

Alt

Often just the mention of the word ‘interview’ can leave people feeling anxious. It is a universal fact that barely anyone enjoys the prospect of having to go for an interview, of any kind. Just the idea that someone is sitting there questioning you and judging your abilities can be an extremely unnerving prospect. Thankfully there are many ways to overcome this dread. It is simple in that the more you practice and prepare, the more confident you will feel when you step into the interview room. I am not saying this to scare you, but you need to be prepared when questions don’t go your way, or when you make a mistake. It’s important to know how to recover and keep focus.

Writing a Great SAT Essay

Alt

Start by reading the question, then read it again. Planning is an essential aspect of the SAT writing to make sure you fully understand what you are being asked to write about. Give yourself five to ten minutes to map out our ideas and structure. This way you will be able to keep to a clear structure that flows easily and can keep you focused.

When marking an SAT essay, looking at proper structure is a basic way to assess someone’s essay writing capabilities. A fail safe technique for the SAT essay is to start with a simple introduction, follow on with two to three paragraphs illustrating different points. In these paragraphs, your first and last sentences need to be the strongest. Try and follow the system of point-evidence-explanation. It works every time! Outside examples as evidence are a great way to help illustrate and strengthen the point you’re making.

TOEFL - Idioms

Alt

Do you believe that “actions speak louder than words”? Have you “made a bundle” in smart investments and no longer need to worry about money matters? Are you likely to “beat around the bush” rather than answer difficult questions directly? Do you get “carried away” when you are shopping and spend many more hours than necessary hunting for the perfect necklace to go with your denim jacket?

f you understood the meaning of the questions above, you’re well on your way to learning idioms and to sounding more native an English speaker. At ICON+ Education Centre, we expose our TOEFL prep students to idioms to help them sound more fluent and more capable of manipulating the English language – and therefore more likely to achieve high scores.
